How often do you test your smoke alarms?
If you're like most Brits, the answer is probably not regularly enough.
Many fire services in the UK recommend testing smoke alarms weekly.
The National Fire Chiefs Council suggests once a month at the very least.
However, a survey* has found most Brits fall way below these standards.
It found that 5% of people test their alarms weekly, and 18% test them monthly.
About 35% test once every two to six months, and 15% do it yearly.
About 25% never test their alarms or do so less than once a year.
What about rentals?
Landlords should ensure that smoke alarms are working at the start of a tenancy.
During a tenancy, tenants are responsible for testing smoke alarms.
